Biography

Robert J. Richards is the Morris Fishbein Distinguished Service Professor in the History of Science at the University of Chicago. He received his degree from the University of Chicago in 1978 and has since developed a notable academic career focusing on the history and philosophy of biology and psychology. His research includes a particular interest in evolutionary biopsychology, ethology, sociobiology, evolutionary ethics, and the philosophy of history—especially as it pertains to German Romanticism. Over the years, he has authored and edited numerous influential works, including "Debating Darwin" and "Hitler and Darwinian", which explore the historical and philosophical implications of evolutionary theory. His contributions to the field were recognized with prestigious awards such as the Laing Prize and the Sarton Medal for Lifetime Achievement. As director of the Morris Fishbein Center for the History of Science and Medicine, Richards continues to be a leading figure in the study of these critical areas.
