Biography

Robert Riggleman is a Professor and the Undergraduate Curriculum Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and completed his PhD at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2007. Robert's research interests lie in the use of theoretical and computational tools to study the properties of soft matter. His group focuses on understanding the failure of polymer networks and developing novel simulation approaches to investigate multiphase materials in equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions across a range of length scales. Current projects include designing nanoscale structures in confined polymer blends, predicting properties of charge-containing polymers, and developing novel models for liquid-crystalline materials. Robert has continued his research career post-PhD with a brief postdoctoral position at the University of California, Santa Barbara under the advisement of Professor Glenn Fredrickson. He joined the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 and has been actively involved in advancing the field of soft matter through multiscale modeling approaches that span from atomistic to coarse-grained and field-theoretic simulations.
