Biography

Robert Rissman is a Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of Southern California (USC), where he holds the W.M. Keck Endowed Chair in Medicine. He is the founding Director of the Neuroscience Translational Research Division at USC’s San Diego campus, particularly at the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI). Dr. Rissman leads the Biomarker Unit for the Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials Consortium at USC's Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. His laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration related to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD) through the identification and validation of plasma biomarkers for dementia and neurodegeneration, utilizing both biobank human specimens and animal cell models. His work includes the validation of biomarkers to predict Alzheimer's-related brain changes and the study of synucleinopathies. Dr. Rissman has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to the field of neuroscience and Alzheimer's research.
