Biography

Robert Russo holds LLB, LLM, and PhD degrees from the Peter Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. He primarily focuses on immigration and labor/employment law and has published several peer-reviewed articles in this field. Since joining UBC as a part-time faculty member in 2017, he was appointed as a full-time Faculty Lead Lecturer for the LLMCL program in 2018, where he designed and taught online courses in Torts and Public Law. Dr. Russo’s research interests also encompass human rights and labor justice issues. He has been invited to present on labor migration issues by the Royal Society of Canada and the International Labour Organization. He has worked as a legal researcher while pursuing his graduate law degrees and has served as a representative for the Federal Government in hearings in Canada to resolve individual claims related to federally operated residential schools. An active member of the local legal community, he is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and has taught at Continuing Legal Education Society and Professional Legal Education Co-Operative Association, while also volunteering for refugee and human rights organizations in the Lower Mainland.
