Biography

Robert Schapiro is the Dean C. Hugh Friedman Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law, having joined in January 2021. He previously served as the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law at Emory University School of Law from 2012 to 2017, where he was also Co-Director of the Center for Federalism and Intersystemic Governance. Before his deanship, he held various administrative roles, including associate vice provost for academic affairs and associate dean for faculty. An internationally recognized scholar in federalism, Schapiro graduated from Yale Law School, where he was the editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal. His practical experience includes clerking for Justice John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court and for Judge Pierre N. Leval in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Schapiro has received multiple accolades, including the Emory Williams Distinguished Teaching Award and the Ben F. Johnson Faculty Excellence Award, recognizing his contributions to graduate education and the legal community.
