Biography

Robert Shimer is the George J. Stigler Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. His research primarily focuses on labor economics and macroeconomics. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to the understanding of labor markets, search theory, and the dynamics of unemployment. He is recognized for his work on mismatch workers and the role of private information in labor markets, particularly in relation to duration dependence. An esteemed member of the academic community, Shimer is a fellow of the Econometric Society, and the Society of Labor Economists, and is part of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received the Sherwin Rosen Prize for his outstanding contributions to the field of labor economics. Shimer earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003.
