Biography

Prior to starting his PhD, Robert Soden was a professional software developer and consultant for the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), where he launched the Open Data Resilience Initiative, a worldwide effort to harness open data and open source software for civic technology aimed at improving disaster climate risk management. He is a co-founder and member of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, a global organization dedicated to creating free open maps for humanitarian and development purposes. Soden's research interests span various areas including crisis informatics, human-computer interaction (HCI), computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), infrastructure studies, critical design, participatory sensing, civic technology, and environmental justice.
