Dr. Robert Stewart

Biography

Robert Stewart is a practicing psychiatrist and a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, currently based in Lilongwe, Malawi. His research primarily focuses on mental health, particularly maternal mental health and the developmental outcomes for infants. Stewart is involved in various research capacity-building initiatives and has a long-standing commitment to improving mental health services in Malawi. He has contributed to the founding of the Scotland Malawi Mental Health Education Project, which has significantly impacted the training of medical professionals in Malawi. He has also engaged in numerous high-profile research projects aimed at understanding and enhancing the mental health of mothers and their children. As a co-investigator, he plays a key role in the Generation Malawi project, which studies the long-term consequences of health conditions affecting families in Malawi. His academic contributions include several leadership roles in international conferences and various publications focusing on perinatal mental health and maternal well-being.
