Biography

Robert L. Talbert, Jr. is a Professor Emeritus at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin. He has authored over 100 scientific articles and book chapters, including significant contributions to the fourth edition of "Pharmacotherapy: Pathophysiology Approach." His recent research has focused on the role of antithrombotic therapy in stroke prevention in nonrheumatic atrial fibrillation, particularly in the context of the Stroke Prevention Atrial Fibrillation trial. Talbert has served in various leadership roles, including as Chair of the Special Interest Group on Adult Medicine for the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and as Chair of the Section on Pharmacy Practice for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He was also the Chairman of the Research Institute of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy from August 1993 to August 1994. A Past-President of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Talbert has been involved with the Specialty Council of Pharmacotherapy of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties and served on the Advisory Panel for Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs at the United States Pharmacopeial Convention. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP) in 1986. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. and is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. He also mentors 28 specialty practice residents and five clinical sciences fellows in his capacity as a preceptor.
