Biography

Robert Turcotte trained in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Montreal and developed an interest in musculoskeletal oncology during his time at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, followed by fellowships at Cochin Hospital in Paris and the Mayo Clinic. He joined the Montreal General Hospital at McGill in 1994 on a part-time basis, becoming chair of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at McGill University and leading the department at MUHC from 2004 to 2016. He functions as the medical director of a provincial designated supraregional sarcoma program and is involved in both pediatric and adult tumor care. He has held a professorship and a research chair in orthopaedics at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia. Turcotte’s leadership positions include past president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association and chair of the Canadian Orthopaedic Oncology Society’s outcome section. His research and organizational efforts have contributed to national initiatives regarding tissue transplantation and adverse event surveillance. He is also recognized for his advocacy in the establishment of publicly funded osseointegration programs in Canada, which was a significant achievement for amputee care. Turcotte continues to be active in lecturing and publishing in the field.
