Biography

Robert Udelsman, MD, MBA, FACS, FACE is the William H Carmalt Professor Emeritus of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. He graduated from Lafayette College and attended George Washington University School of Medicine, where he graduated first in his class in 1981. Dr. Udelsman completed his surgical training at Johns Hopkins, where he undertook fellowships in medical endocrinology at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, oncologic surgery at the National Cancer Institute, and gastrointestinal surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His clinical research focuses on the development of minimally invasive endocrine surgery, particularly with an emphasis on parathyroid glands. He has authored around 300 publications and has received multiple awards, maintaining membership in over 30 national and international societies, as well as serving on 7 editorial boards. He has held prominent roles such as past President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons and the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons. Dr. Udelsman remains active in clinical practice, having performed over 6,000 thyroid and 2,500 parathyroid cases, and is committed to educating the next generation of leaders in academic surgery.
