Biography

Robert Van Houweling is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1993 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2003. His research focuses on the interaction between voters, politicians, electoral institutions, and legislative institutions in shaping representation in the United States. He is particularly interested in understanding representational linkages between electorates and officeholders. His recent work also explores legislative tactics employed by majority parties in Congress and their implications for representation.
