Biography

Robert Wolkow is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Alberta. He completed his BSc at the University of Waterloo in 1982 and earned his PhD from the University of Toronto in 1987. Following his doctoral studies, he held a postdoctoral position at IBM in Yorktown Heights, New York. He joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1988 as a Member of the Technical Staff. In 1994, Wolkow became a Senior Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada and was promoted to Principal Research Officer in 2000. He has been a Professor at the University of Alberta since 2003, holding the iCORE Chair in Nanoscale Information Communication Technologies. His research focuses on atom-scale fabrication, the physical principles of ultra-low-power electronic computation, and the development of quantum computing technologies. He has also served as the Scientific Director at the National Institute for Nanotechnology and has extensive experience in hybrid nano-electronic systems.
