Biography

Robert Yalden is the inaugural holder of the Stephen Sigurdson Professorship in Corporate Law and Finance at Queen's University. From 2018, he has combined his academic role with practical experience, having previously been a senior partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and an adjunct professor at McGill Law. He has over 30 years of experience in law, focusing on how various forces shape the responsibilities of corporations and their stakeholders in Canada and beyond. His insights arise from his time as a law clerk for Justice Bertha Wilson at the Supreme Court of Canada, and his extensive practical experience in corporate law. Robert has become one of Canada's leading business lawyers, recognized consistently for his expertise. He actively participates in academic discussions, serves as Co-Editor of the Canadian Business Law Journal, and engages in numerous conferences discussing contemporary issues in business law. Recent accomplishments include appointments as a visiting fellow at Wadham College, University of Oxford, and roles in various legal reform projects with international organizations like UNIDROIT. His publications encompass several significant works in corporate law and include articles addressing the complexities of good faith in contractual negotiations and dual-class share structures in Canadian corporate governance.
