Biography

Robert Zachariae is a professor in the Department of Psychology and Behavioural Science at Aarhus University and in the Department of Oncology at Aarhus University Hospital. He is the director of the Unit for Psychooncology, a health psychology research unit focused on biopsychosocial cancer research, with a particular emphasis on cancer survivorship issues. His current research interests include clinical and psychosocial predictors of long-term outcomes in cancer patients and survivors, investigating factors such as distress, pain, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and cognitive complaints. He is involved in numerous ongoing projects evaluating the efficacy of both face-to-face and digital psychological interventions, including expressive writing, mindfulness-based therapy, cognitive training, and cognitive-behavioral therapy for cancer-related distress and other health problems, such as psoriasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He has a wide-ranging experience as a research fellow at prestigious institutions, including the Beth Israel Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Robert has authored over 397 publications, and his work has garnered over 22,750 citations with an H-index of 82 as of November 2025.
