Biography

Roberta Bencini is an Associate Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, where she has been an academic since 1993. She has developed new teaching programs in wildlife management and supervises postgraduate students on projects related to wildlife conservation management. She began her work with the endangered Dibbler species in 1997, becoming a member of the Dibbler Recovery Team, which successfully established a captive breeding program at Perth Zoo and a new population on Escape Island. Her current research focuses on managing the negative effects of roads and developments on wildlife, including methods to enhance biodiversity in managed ecosystems. Bencini’s work has been supported by numerous grants, including those from the Australian Research Council, and she has conducted significant research on the Western Ringtail Possum. She coordinates several postgraduate units related to animal production and oversees various wildlife management projects, including those investigating road ecology.
