Dr. Roberta Klatzky

Biography

Roberta Klatzky is the Charles J. Queenan, Jr. University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, associated with the Department of Psychology and the Human-Computer Interaction Institute. Klatzky's research focuses on Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, and Perception, with particular interests in how individuals perceive and interact with both real and virtual environments. She completed her B.S. in Mathematics at the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology at Stanford University. Throughout her career, she has authored 300 articles and chapters and has edited seven books. Her work examines fundamental aspects of perception and spatial thinking, often applied in fields such as tele-manipulation and image-guided surgery. Klatzky is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, and she holds membership in various professional associations. She has received numerous accolades, including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, and the James McKeen Cattell Fellow Award from the Association for Psychological Science, recognizing her significant contributions to applied psychological research. Klatzky has also served in governance roles within several scientific societies and on various review panels for major research funding agencies.
