Roberta researches early modern English literature, with a particular focus on Shakespeare and the intersections of literature, theology, philosophy, and theatre. She is the author of 'Shakespeare, Reformation Interpreting Self' (2023), which was shortlisted for the 2023 Australian University Heads English Prize for Literary Scholarship and longlisted for the 2024 REFORC Book Award. This work examines Shakespeare’s dramatizations through the lens of hermeneutical traditions that engage with early modern religious beliefs and pivotal philosophical ideas of the era. Roberta's research poses critical questions about human finitude, agency, motivations, self-knowledge, and ethics—questions that resonate with both Shakespeare's England and contemporary debates regarding human experience. In 2024-25, Roberta will hold a Short-term Scholarly Research Fellowship at the Folger Shakespeare Library, and she has previously been awarded fellowships from ANZAMEMS and the Australian Academy of Humanities. Roberta has taught widely across disciplines in English and Writing Studies, contributing to a broad understanding of her fields of interest and expertise.
