Dr. Roberto Guglielmi

Biography

Roberto Guglielmi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. He received his PhD in Mathematics from University Tor Vergata in Rome and a joint PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lorraine in Metz, France. Prior to joining Waterloo, he held postdoctoral fellowships at FGV EMAp in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Gran Sasso Science Institute in L'Aquila, Italy; RICAM in Linz, Austria; Imperial College London; and the University of Bayreuth in Germany. His research interests focus on developing control optimization strategies for complex dynamics, specifically those described by ordinary and partial differential systems of evolution, with applications in engineering and life sciences. Guglielmi's work encompasses a range of applications, including environmental sustainability, health, and energy. Notable examples include the optimization of utility distribution networks, heat transfer phenomena in the presence of cracks and fractures, epidemic control, and robotics for environmental monitoring and precision agriculture.
