Biography

Roberto Roccu joined the Department of European & International Studies at King’s College in September 2012. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He completed his BA in Political Science at the University of Sassari and an MA in International Studies at the University of Bologna-Forlì. As a native Italian Sardinian speaker, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and French, and is steadily improving his command of Modern Standard Arabic. His research is situated within the tradition of critical International Political Economy (IPE), with a regional focus on the Middle East and Mediterranean. His work examines the integral role of the Middle East in the global political economy, aiming to bridge IPE literature with regional studies, which has often neglected the global interconnections that have significantly transformed the region, particularly over the last fifty years. His contributions to the literature focus on the political economy of the Egyptian revolution and counter-revolution, with ongoing research on EU relations with its near abroad, including economic reforms promoted by the EU in the context of the Middle East. He has extensive teaching experience in International Political Economy, specifically concerning international financial institutions and developing countries.
