Roberto Solis-Oba is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University under the supervision of Prof. Greg Frederickson and held a postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics with guidance from Prof. Kurt Mehlhorn. His research focuses on designing efficient approximation algorithms for NP-hard optimization problems, with extensive work in areas including network scheduling, packing optimization, path planning, genome assembly, and video game optimization. Prof. Solis-Oba is a co-founder of the Workshop on Approximation Online Algorithms (WAOA), which has taken place annually since 2003, and has served on program committees for numerous conferences in algorithm design. He has received the Faculty Scholar Award and the USC Teaching Award from the University of Western Ontario. His research also involves mining information from large networks, predictive caching, and search engine optimization.
