Biography

Professor Roberto Togneri received his Ph.D. degree in 1989 from the University of Western Australia. He joined the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Australia in 1988 and currently holds the position of Senior Honorary Research Fellow. His research focuses on signal processing and pattern recognition, particularly in areas such as audio signal enhancement, statistical neural network models for speech and speaker recognition, audio-visual recognition, and biometrics. Professor Togneri has substantially contributed to the field, evidenced by receiving 3,500 citations as of 2018 and an h-index of 48. He has been recognized for his contributions to education with an Education Innovation Award for ground-breaking teaching in Signals and Systems at ICASSP 2019. He has served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2012 to 2016 and as Area Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine and Columns and Forums from 2018 to 2020. He has also undertaken various projects funded by the Australian Research Council from 2009 to 2017, focusing on areas including robust speech recognition and dimensional audio-visual generation for speech recognition systems.
