Biography

Roberto Zenit is the Royce Family Professor of Teaching Excellence and a Professor of Engineering at Brown University. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1992, followed by a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. His research expertise lies in Fluid Mechanics, focusing particularly on two-phase flows and biological flows. Zenit’s experimental work combines with numerical simulations to explore complex systems, including bubbly and granular flows. He leads a research group dedicated to understanding the fundamental nature of fluid dynamics while also acknowledging the practical implications of his findings in modern engineering applications. His interests include studying the hydrodynamics of bubbles and droplets, interactions in non-Newtonian fluids, and the impact of rheological properties on flow behavior. He has published numerous papers in leading journals, contributing significantly to the underlying principles of fluid mechanics. In addition, Zenit is involved in interdisciplinary studies examining the relationship between art and engineering, particularly how fluid mechanics principles affect painting techniques. His contributions to science and education have garnered him several honors, including membership in the Mexican Academy of Sciences and recognition as a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
