Biography

Robin Ingalls, MD, is a Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where she specializes in Infectious Diseases. Following her education at Harvard University and Holy Cross College, she has focused her research on the innate immune system, particularly its responses to invading pathogenic organisms and control of infections critical for survival. Her work includes developing models for understanding infections such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis, which are known to lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility, and investigating how infections can alter placental immunity contributing to preterm birth. Dr. Ingalls is the Medical Director of the Special Pathogens Unit (SPU) at the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL), a maximum containment facility. Committed to diversity and inclusion, she actively mentors underrepresented students in STEM and serves on the Faculty Development Diversity Committee. Dr. Ingalls is also involved in various interdisciplinary biomedical research initiatives at Boston University, emphasizing the importance of research in infectious diseases and health equity.
