Professor Dr. Robin Metcalfe

Biography

Robin Metcalfe is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at York University, specializing in physics and space-related courses within the Faculty of Science. She has been a member of the university since 2004 and teaches a variety of courses, including Astronomy, History of Astronomy, and Introduction to Physics. Metcalfe has a PhD focused on extragalactic astronomy, where her research involved studying the formation of sheet-like distributions of galaxies in the universe and analyzing approximately 80 nearby galaxies within the so-called Local Sheet. She utilizes imaging data from observatories in Hawaii, Mexico, Chile, and South Africa to conduct her surveys, defining the properties and boundaries of these cosmic structures. Beyond her teaching responsibilities, she aims to provide engaging courses that empower students to develop informed opinions about contemporary issues in science and technology.
