Biography

Robin Planas is a licensed architect in Puerto Rico and a visiting faculty member at the University of Illinois. He co-founded Planas-Calzada Arquitectos, a design studio based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He teaches courses in Architectural Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, and Data Visualization. His work explores the hybrid nature of practice, combining architecture and graphic design to strive for an elusive timelessness in design. Planas has served as a board member for the Puerto Rico Architectural Foundation since 2017. His research and teaching interests emphasize visual representation and the cognitive qualities of graphic systems, with creative work spanning graphic design, editorial design, and brand identity development. His contributions have been recognized by various professional organizations including ACSA, AIA, AIAPR, CEMEX, and CAAPPR.
