Robin Roth is a broadly trained human-environment geographer with expertise in conservation governance conflict, political ecology, and Indigenous approaches to conservation. His work is characterized by empirical, field-based research informed by relevant theory, and is attentive to the discursive and material processes related to social-ecological outcomes in environmental governance. Roth is committed to advancing decolonial and reconciliatory research practices that engage multiple knowledge systems. He is the Principal Investigator and co-lead of the Conservation Reconciliation Partnership (SSHRC Partnership Grant), a seven-year initiative aimed at critically investigating state conservation practices in Canada to support efforts for Indigenous-led conservation in the spirit of reconciliation and decolonization. He oversees project objectives that support the establishment of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas, and transformation of existing protected areas. His research interests include political ecology, Indigenous-led conservation, forest governance, and decolonial theory, focusing particularly on Southeast Asia and North America.
