Biography

Robin van den Boom graduated with honors from Utrecht University in 1996 and began training in Equine Surgery. By 2002, he became a registered specialist in Equine Surgery with the Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association. He completed his PhD in 2004, focusing on synovial fluid in horses. In addition, Dr. van den Boom trained as a resident in Equine Internal Medicine and passed the specialist exams from the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2009. Between September 2014 and February 2017, he served as the Head of the Department of Equine Health at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Since March 2017, Robin has been a member of the Equine Medicine team at Utrecht University, where his research interests are primarily in equine dermatology, particularly Insect Bite Hypersensitivity, and gastrointestinal problems such as colic. He is recognized as an EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine, actively contributing to the training and accreditation of veterinary specialists across Europe. Additionally, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine employs EBVS specialists from various fields and is recognized as a training institute for specializations, ensuring high-quality patient care.
