Biography

Robin Walters completed degrees in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and Genetics at the University of Liverpool. With over 17 years of experience in biophysics, biochemistry, and genetics with a focus on plant photosynthesis, he has held posts at several prestigious institutions including Imperial College London as a Research Fellow. His work concentrated on investigating the contribution of structural variation in the human genome to disease risk and phenotypic variation, with a particular focus on diabetes and obesity. Since joining the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit in June 2012, he has served as Senior Scientist in Statistical Genetics and Genetic Epidemiology for the China Kadoorie Biobank, leading the establishment and development of genomics resources and directing diverse genomics research projects. His research interests currently center on using trans-ancestry analyses from multiple biobanks, including the UK Biobank, to investigate the aetiology and genetic architecture of chronic diseases, emphasizing cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors such as adiposity, blood pressure, and blood lipids. He is also a co-lead of the Fine-Mapping Trans-ancestry Meta-analysis Working Group within the Genetic Investigation of Anthropometric Traits (GIANT) consortium and is a member of the Board of Examiners for the MSc in Global Health Science with a concentration in Epidemiology.
