Dr. Rocco Macchiavello

Biography

Rocco Macchiavello holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE), where he currently serves as a Professor of Management. His previous roles include being a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Nuffield College at Oxford University and a position at the Harvard Kennedy School. Furthermore, he has held professorships in Economics at the University of Warwick. Macchiavello's research interests are situated at the intersection of development and organizational industrial economics. His work delves into various topics, including relational contracts, vertical integration, supply chains, lending models, risk management, and productivity. He has conducted research across multiple countries, including Bangladesh, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Rwanda, covering diverse sectors such as coffee, flowers, dairy, and garments. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous government agencies, international organizations, and large social enterprises. His current research focuses on industrial zones and policy in emerging markets, sustainable sourcing in supply chains, and the behavior of firms in environments with weak institutional frameworks. He possesses expertise in relational contracts, industrial relations, and regulations in emerging markets.
