Dr. Rochelle Côté

Biography

Dr. Rochelle Côté is an Associate Professor in Sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her expertise lies in Ethnic Inequality, Indigenous-Settler Relations, Social Networks, and Social Capital. Her current research includes examining the intersection of identity, culture, and social mobility among Indigenous Peoples through a project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Côté's academic journey includes obtaining her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. She actively engages in cross-national research focusing on Indigenous entrepreneurship, exploring how social networks and cultural knowledge contribute to participation in mainstream markets. Aside from her academic role, Dr. Côté has provided consulting services to various organizations including Nokia and the Social Research Demonstration Corporation. Her research interests involve understanding the connections between social cohesion and social networks, particularly in the context of Indigenous entrepreneurship. Côté has affiliations with the Institute of Social Science Research at the University of Queensland and holds honorary fellowships at the University of Melbourne. Throughout her career, she has authored several impactful publications addressing themes of social capital and ethnic tolerance, and frequently presents her work at academic conferences.
