Rocky Penate completed doctoral studies in French literature at the University of Toronto (2011). His thesis dealt with the representation of modernity's forms of accelerated life, notably the works of Flaubert, Proust, and Ponge. After his dissertation, Rocky obtained a Bachelor of Education from Brock University (2014). Since Fall 2014, he has been teaching and coordinating French language classes for beginners and intermediate learners at the University of Waterloo. His research and teaching interests include content-based instruction in French language teaching and French literature from the 19th and 20th centuries, along with Animal Studies. He is currently a co-investigator on a LITE grant-funded project aimed at developing an open online interactive workbook for intermediate French language students. Additionally, Rocky organizes a peer-tutoring service called the Centre d'aide à la rédaction (CAR), which assists students in enhancing their writing skills outside the classroom.
