Dr. Roderick Hart

Biography

Roderick Hart holds the Allan Shivers Centennial Chair in Communication at the University of Texas. He specializes in the intersection of politics and mass media and has authored eighteen books, including 'American Eloquence: Language and Leadership in the Twentieth Century.' Hart is the creator of DICTION 7.0, a computer program designed to analyze language patterns. His contributions to the field are recognized through numerous grants from prestigious foundations such as the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation. He has been honored as a Research Fellow by the International Communication Association, and was named Distinguished Scholar by the National Communication Association. Hart was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at the University of Texas and has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching. These accolades include the Phi Kappa Phi National Scholar of the Year Award and the Murray Edelman Career Award from the American Political Science Association. He has served as the founding director of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life and was the Dean of the Moody College of Communication from 2004 to 2015. Hart has supervised over sixty graduate theses and dissertations, reflecting his commitment to academic mentorship.
