Dr. Rodney Herring

Biography

Rodney Herring is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. His research focuses on the development of advanced imaging systems and their associated methods, predominantly using electron and acoustic beams for medical diagnostics and nanotechnology. He holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, where his thesis centered on solute interactions and point defects in metals. Dr. Herring's extensive experience includes work at Martin Marietta Laboratories, where he specialized in materials surface science. He has contributed significantly to the field of materials science, particularly in the testing and characterization of alloys and advanced materials. His post-PhD career also includes a notable position as a Program Scientist for the Microgravity Sciences Program at the Canadian Space Agency, overseeing high-quality scientific research in space, and he was involved in developing facilities for the International Space Station.
