Biography

Rodney Hoff is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington. His expertise includes Clean Air, Sustainable Communities, Children's Health, Environmental Health, Equity, Infectious Diseases, and Population Health. Prior to joining the University of Washington School of Public Health, Hoff served for six years as the Executive Director of the Regional Emerging Diseases Intervention (REDI) Center in Singapore, where he focused on enhancing the region's capacity to monitor, detect, and respond to emerging disease threats. He also conducted significant research projects on avian influenza, dengue, and chikungunya. Before his tenure in Singapore, he worked for 16 years at the Division of AIDS at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), coordinating multi-center clinical trials for HIV. Hoff earned his Doctor of Science degree from Harvard University and has held faculty positions at both Harvard School of Public Health and Tufts Medical School. His career has also included service with the Peace Corps in Thailand and as a Medical Service Officer in the U.S. Army. Hoff is actively involved in mentorship for new PhD and Master's students, and his research interests emphasize the epidemiology and control of emerging infectious diseases.
