I am an ecohydrologist with a background in civil engineering and water resources management. My research has focused on hydrology and water management in drylands and seasonal forests, as well as ecohydrology in rainforests and the impacts of land-use change on environments. My work includes field-based case studies in the Amazon rainforest, Brazilian Caatinga, the Cerrado, Cape Verde in East Africa, Japan, and the Northwest region of Texas. I joined the School of Geographical Sciences in 2022 as a Lecturer in Hydrology. Prior to that, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Reading and in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. My research interests revolve around understanding the role of water in ecosystems and the soil-vegetation-atmosphere continuum, investigating how water is influenced by various elements of the terrestrial biosphere and anthroposphere. I focus on quantification of ecosystem services such as water quality, soil health, and biodiversity in catchments and river basins; assessing the impacts of climate extremes and land use change on water resources; and the development of theories for optimal allocation of water and carbon at various scales.
