Biography

During his distinguished career, Rodolphe De Koninck has remarkably contributed to the growth of geography as a scientific discipline not only in Quebec and Canada but also on an international scale. He joined the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal in 2002 as a full professor after teaching at Laval University for nearly 30 years. His research interests include agriculture, peasantries in Southeast Asia, and social, economic, and political development. However, his passion for geography extends well beyond academic confines. Mr. De Koninck has actively contributed to the establishment of genuine knowledge through his teaching and participation in public debates on geographical issues. An excellent communicator, he has always been present in the media, has written numerous opinion articles, and participated in various television shows. His scientific output is exceptional, having published 22 books, 22 collective works, and 153 articles or book chapters. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada's Academy of Arts, Humanities, and Sciences and has received the Medal of Honor from the Geography Society of France.
