Biography

Rodrigo Rocha Maia is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, particularly within the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics. Dr. Maia earned his DDS degree from Gama Filho University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he also completed a Certificate in Operative Dentistry and Periodontology. He served in the Brazilian Air Force and practiced part-time in private dentistry in Rio de Janeiro. After obtaining his MS and PhD in Restorative Dentistry from Rio de Janeiro State University, he undertook postdoctoral training at the University of Iowa. Dr. Maia was appointed as the Director of the Operative Dentistry graduate program at the Brazilian Air Force before joining the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2012. He was subsequently hired as an Assistant Professor in 2013 and served as Co-Director of the Advanced Education Program in Operative Dentistry from 2015 to 2020. His research interests focus on the interaction of light with dental tissues and biomaterials, aiming to develop innovative methods that achieve restorations closely replicating the natural appearance of dental tissues.
