Biography

Rodrigo Werle is an Associate Professor and Extension Cropping Systems Weed Scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He leads the WiscWeeds program which focuses on integrated approaches for weed management in corn, soybeans, and small grains within Wisconsin farm systems. Dr. Werle completed his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy at São Paulo State University in Brazil and earned his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Agronomy with a specialization in Weed Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research interests center around agroecologically-based approaches to sustainable weed management, emphasizing strategies that protect water quality and enhance agroecosystem services to improve food security. Dr. Werle has also engaged in the development of weed management recommendations and herbicide evaluation programs, contributing to both growers and agricultural professionals in Wisconsin. He has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the North Central Weed Science Society in 2021 and the Alfred Toepfer Faculty Fellow Award at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2020 to 2021.
