Biography

Rogelio Alejandro Lopez is an academic and media maker focusing on social movements, media activism, and youth civic media. He earned his doctorate in Communication from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. His dissertation examined the media practices of youth activists involved in contemporary social movements, highlighting the intersections between communication and activism. Lopez's work explores the dynamics of arts, culture, and digital media, contributing to discussions around literacy, politics, popular culture, race and ethnicity, and social justice. He is affiliated with the Critical Media Project and Civic Paths, where he engages in initiatives that promote civic engagement through media. He teaches courses related to these themes, fostering a learning environment that encourages students to critically analyze media and its role in society.
