Dr. Roger Arce-Munoz initiated his graduate education at Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, acquiring his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2000, followed by a Master’s degree in Pharmacology with a specialization in Periodontology in 2005. He relocated to the United States to pursue a PhD in Oral Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which he completed in 2011. During his time at UNC, he also earned a specialty certificate in Periodontics in 2013 and participated in a Translational Research training program through a postdoctoral fellowship at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute aimed at cultivating the next generation of oral health researchers. His research interests are primarily focused on the molecular host/pathogen interactions and the modulation of inflammatory responses in periodontitis, as well as advancements in computer-guided implant surgery systems. Over the years, Dr. Arce has been recognized with various accolades, including the AAPF Educator Scholarship in 2012, the AAPF Fellowship in Teaching and Learning in 2014, and the AAPF Teaching Fellowship in 2015. Currently, he is a Harold Amos AMFDP scholar, a diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology, and serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry.
