Biography

Roger is a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on atomic astrophysics, particularly in improving the modeling of atomic processes in plasma. This work aims to enhance the diagnostic properties of plasma, including temperature, density, and chemical abundance. His current research is centered on improving the models typically used to diagnose ions formed in the lower solar atmosphere, specifically regarding the transition region and chromosphere. Initially, Roger's work sought to model the effects of higher densities in ionization and recombination processes involving free electrons, which are essential for coronal modeling. He has further developed these models by incorporating atomic processes usually included in coronal modeling, considering the induced solar radiation that occurs during collisions between atoms and ions. Ongoing tests indicate that these new modeling approaches significantly improve the understanding of plasma in the lower solar atmosphere.
