Roger obtained a PhD in pharmacology from Monash University in 1988, focusing on the neuroendocrine actions of opioids. He subsequently joined the Baker Institute in the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne to study neural mechanisms involved in responses to hypovolaemia under Professor John Ludbrook from 1988 to 1992. Roger served as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology from 2006 to 2013 and was an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Physiology - Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology from 2013 to 2018. He has contributed to several editorial boards, including Kidney International. His research expertise aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing cardiovascular health, hypertension, and kidney functions.
