Biography

Roger Ghanem is a Professor in the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California. He obtained his Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering from Rice University in 1989, and also completed his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in the same field from Rice University and American University of Beirut, respectively. His research focuses on probabilistic modeling and computational stochastic mechanics, which includes quantitative models for the propagation of uncertainty in physical systems, structural dynamics, and earthquake engineering. He has received numerous awards and honors for his contribution to engineering, including being named a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
