Trained as a microbiologist and cell biologist, Roger Lippé graduated in 1986 from the Université de Montréal with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (Microbiology option). He then pursued further training in Dr. Frank Graham's laboratory at McMaster University, earning a Master of Science in 1989, studying adenovirus replication. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1995 under Dr. Wilfred Jefferies, investigating adenovirus interactions with the immune system. Following postdoctoral studies in Dr. Marino Zerial's lab (1995-2000), he has been a professor at the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology, initially as an Associate Professor (2001-2007), then as a Full Professor (2017-present). His research interests primarily focus on the intricate molecular interactions between viruses like herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and their host cells, exploring their replication cycles and developing novel therapeutic targets. He is also investigating molecular links between HSV-1 and Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout his career, Lippé has received numerous research grants and honors for his contributions to the field of virology and cellular biology.
