Biography

Roger Pierson is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine. He holds an MS and PhD, with a specialization in Reproductive Endocrinology and Physiology. His research is interdisciplinary and focuses on ovarian follicular development, natural cycles, ovarian stimulation, ovulation induction, endometrial receptivity, and hormonal contraception. Pierson is known for his pioneering work in the visualization of human ovulation using ultrasonography, which he began in 1990. His contributions to ovarian function studies were recognized as one of the Top 100 scientific discoveries by Discover magazine in 2004. He has developed innovative imaging tools that enhance the assessment of ovarian function and endometrial receptivity, as well as software for tissue characterization using ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance images. Over his career, Pierson has generated more than 650 publications and holds 6 patents, alongside executive positions within professional organizations, including serving as the Past-President of the Canadian Fertility Andrology Society. He has received several awards, including the University of Saskatchewan Distinguished Researcher Award in 2000 and the Chatelaine Women’s Health Hero Award.
