Biography

Roger L. Rosentreter is a Visiting Professor at Michigan State University in the Department of History. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and completed both his master's and doctoral degrees at Michigan State University. He has a rich history of involvement in the field of Michigan history, having joined the staff of the Michigan History magazine, where he served as editor from 1988 to 2009. Under his leadership, the magazine became the most widely circulated state history publication in the nation. In the early 1990s, Rosentreter became an adjunct instructor in the MSU History Department, where he teaches courses on Michigan History and Civil War Military History. He is also known for actively presenting on Michigan history to school groups. His extensive writings on the subject include notable publications such as Michigan’s Early Military Forces (2003) and Michigan Remembers Lincoln (2009), the latter co-authored with Dr. Le Roy Barnett. He also co-authored Seeking Lincoln Michigan: Remembrance Trail (2009) with the late Dr. Weldon Petz.
