Dr. Roger Wartell

Biography

Roger Wartell is an adjunct professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, focusing on the fields of physics and biochemistry. His research primarily investigates RNA-based regulation of gene expression, specifically through the study of RNA-protein interactions and the thermodynamics of RNA and DNA structural motifs. His work emphasizes understanding the interactions involving RNA-binding proteins, particularly the bacterial protein Hfq and its role in the regulation of gene expression through small non-coding regulatory RNAs. Wartell employs various biochemical and biophysical methods to explore these interactions, including qPCR and fluorescence spectroscopy. His collaborative projects also delve into the role of microRNAs in the developmental stages of the loblolly pine.
