Biography

Roger Zemp is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He received his BSc in Physics from the University of Alberta in 1998, MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2000, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 2004. He has a solid background in postdoctoral research, having worked at Texas A&M University and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Zemp's research focuses on innovative methods in biomedical imaging and biomedical optics, particularly in developing new technologies to improve drug and gene delivery as well as disease diagnosis using imaging techniques. His current research interests include microelectromechanical systems, biomedical photoacoustics, and ultrasound technologies for disease detection and therapeutic applications. He aims to advance methods that provide clinicians and biologists with information that is typically challenging to obtain through traditional imaging techniques. His work encompasses the design and fabrication of devices such as Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasound Transducers (CMUTs) and the application of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) nanoparticles for multiplexed molecular imaging. Dr. Zemp is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of biomedical engineering through his innovative research projects and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
