Dr. Rohini Pande

Biography

Rohini Pande is the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics at Yale University and the Director of the Economic Growth Center. She is recognized for her contributions to development economics, with a focus on how institutions shape power relations and economic patterns in low- and middle-income countries. Pande's research is particularly influential in South Asia, exploring the role of public policy in enhancing economic justice and human rights for the disadvantaged. She has held significant positions, including Rafik Hariri Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard Kennedy School. In recognition of her work, she received the 2018 Carolyn Bell Shaw Award from the American Economic Association and the 2022 Infosys Prize in Social Sciences. Pande has authored several impactful publications, including studies on gender-inclusive development policies in India and Nepal, and has been actively involved in initiatives for improved quality in policy-making at local government levels.
